Yes, if the usual methods didn't work and the hiccups persist. Haldol, Reglan, and Thorazine, or baclofen can be used.
Did you hear the story about the girl that had them for 5 weeks? She was medically treated.
Tweety... I'm guessing the "digital rectal exam" is to SCARE the hiccups away? Holy COW!
I'm guessing she is talking about stimulating the nervous system by stimulating the vagus nerve, I haven't heard of that method.

No, there is no actually medical cure for hiccups. But, there are many tricks to get them to go away. Like, put a paper towel over a plastic cup filled with water and attach it with a rubber band and drink around the edges of the glass. You will be too focused on drinking, that they will go away!
Normally hiccups don't require a "cure". However, in the case of protractedmedical cure for hiccups hiccups, hiccups lasting longer than 48 hours, a digital rectal exam can do the trick. Hiccups lasting longer than 30 days are considered intractable. Baclofen, already mentioned, is also effective for treating this as well as the other meds mentioned by my fellow nurse.
Protracted and intractable hiccups may have an underlying condition as the cause. Normal hiccups generally last no longer than 4 or 5 minutes and don't require treatment. They resolve on their own. I have heard of one case of intractable hiccups lasting 60 years.
